Mount Arlington is the small borough on the south-eastern shore of Lake Hopatcong, directly across I-80 from our yard. From 512 Logan Drive in Landing it is about two road miles — the closest town we serve after Landing itself.

It began as a Victorian resort, and it is still a lake town at heart. Today it is also a commuter town, thanks to a station built right on the interstate.

A borough built around a hotel

In 1886 the Philadelphia architects Furness, Evans & Co. designed the Hotel Breslin on the hill above the lake. It opened in 1887 with 175 rooms for some 300 guests, built at a cost of $70,000, and the exclusive summer colony that grew around it soon wanted its own government.

On 3 November 1890 Mount Arlington was incorporated as a borough from part of Roxbury Township, named after Henry Bennet, the first Earl of Arlington. The Breslin itself burned in 1948 while being renovated, but the hillside streets it shaped are still there.

    The station on the interstate

Mount Arlington station sits right beside I-80 interchange 30 at Howard Boulevard, a park-and-ride stop on NJ Transit that draws commuters from across the lake area.

Its position makes it useful for us too. It is the easiest place in the area to meet a driver: we drop commuters for the morning train, collect them in the evening, and use it as a meeting point for people coming off the interstate.

The route we drive to Newark Airport

From Mount Arlington to EWR is about 38 miles. We are on I-80 east at exit 30 in a minute, then I-287 south and NJ-24 east.

    • Before 6:00 AM — about 50 minutes.
    • 7:00 to 9:30 AM — 75 minutes or so.
    • 4:00 to 7:00 PM — close to 80 minutes.

Allow three and three-quarter hours before a domestic flight departing before 9 AM, and four and a half for international.

    Lake roads and summer weekends

Much of Mount Arlington is lakefront or hillside, with narrow roads down to the water and a lot more traffic in summer than in winter. Marinas, lakeside restaurants and rented houses all bring visitors who have left their cars at home or would rather not drive after dinner.

Tell us the marina, restaurant or house, and whether the pickup is at the road or the dock side, and we will be there.

Who rides with us in Mount Arlington

A lake borough on an interstate gives a mixed pattern:

    • Commuters using the exit 30 station.
    • Airport travellers heading to Newark.
    • Summer visitors at the marinas and lakeside restaurants.
    • Residents needing a quick local ride — we are two miles away.
    • Older residents going to Saint Clare’s in Dover.

Why book us instead of a rideshare app

We are across the highway. That means a car in minutes, a fixed fare, a driver who knows the lake roads and the dock sides, and no summer-weekend surge.

    Lake parties and groups

A Sprinter van takes twelve — a group to a lakeside restaurant and back, a party at a rented house, or a wedding at a lake venue. We keep to the timings.
