The station where three kinds of travel met
Trains began stopping at Landing in the 1870s, and a first station followed in the 1880s. The building on Landing Road today, called Lake Hopatcong station, was put up by the Lackawanna in 1911: a one-and-a-half-storey Tudor Revival building of rubble and cast stone.
For forty years it was the gateway to the lake resorts, and it was unusual in that three forms of transport met at its door. The trolley, which reached Landing in 1908, ran right past the station and over the tracks to the steamboat dock at the foot of the lake, so a visitor could step off a train, onto a trolley and onto a boat within minutes.
Trains from Landing today
Lake Hopatcong station still has NJ Transit service on the Montclair–Boonton and Morristown lines, but it is limited. Many Landing commuters prefer to be driven to Dover, where there are far more trains, rather than wait for the few that stop here.
We do both: a run to the platform on Landing Road for the trains that suit you, or to Dover for the rest, and a pickup in the evening at either.

Being based in Landing changes what we can offer the village. A local ride is a few minutes away, not a quarter of an hour. A 4 AM airport pickup does not depend on a driver crossing the county in the dark. And in a snowstorm the cars are already on this side of the hills.
