New Jersey has several Washington Townships. This one is in the south-west corner of Morris County — the township of Long Valley and Schooley’s Mountain, with Chester to the east and Hunterdon and Warren counties just over the line.

Our base at 512 Logan Drive in Landing is about fourteen road miles to the north, down Route 206 or over the hills through Flanders. It is farm and valley country, and most of our work here is the long run to the airports.

    Washington Township taxi fares

    German Valley becomes Long Valley

Palatine Germans escaping war and famine settled here around 1740, and within twenty years they had farms, mills and Lutheran and Reformed congregations. The place had been Budd’s Valley and then Dutch Valley; in 1804 it became German Valley — an eight-mile valley with the South Branch of the Raritan running down its middle.

In July 1918, with the country at war with Germany, the name was changed to Long Valley. By coincidence that was close to what the Lenape had called it all along. The old centre is now the German Valley Historic District, and it is the most common pickup point we are given in the township.

    Up on Schooley’s Mountain

North-west of the valley the ground climbs about 600 feet to Schooley’s Mountain, where a mineral spring once drew summer visitors and the community of Springtown sits on the ridge.

The climb matters to us. The mountain road is steep and winding, it ices before the valley floor, and in fog the ridge can be a different world from the village below. If you are on the mountain, say so when you book and we will plan the timing accordingly.

The route we drive to Newark Airport

From Long Valley to EWR is about 42 miles — one of the longer runs we make. We usually go east through Chester and Mendham to I-287 south and NJ-24 east, or down to I-78 when the Morristown end is jammed.

    • Before 6:00 AM — about 55 minutes to an hour.
    • 7:00 to 9:30 AM — allow 80 to 85 minutes.
    • 4:00 to 7:00 PM — about 85 minutes.

Leave four hours before a domestic flight departing before 9 AM, and four and three-quarters for international.

    Farm roads, fields and fog

Washington Township is spread wide: farms, orchards and preserved land, with homes set back along roads that are dark long before the rest of the county. Pickups here need more detail than in town.

Give us the road, the house number and something a driver can see from the car — a mailbox, a barn, a gate. On a foggy morning in the valley that saves more time than any route choice.

Who rides with us in Washington Township

A rural township a long way from the interstates gives a clear pattern:

    • Airport travellers for whom a 42-mile drive and a week of parking make no sense.
    • Commuters dropped at Gladstone, Hackettstown or Dover stations.
    • Families juggling school and activities with one car.
    • Visitors to the farms and orchards in harvest season.
    • Older residents going to Hackettstown Medical Center or Morristown.

Booking a taxi in Long Valley

Call (973) 306-7075 at any hour. Tell us Long Valley, Schooley’s Mountain or the road name, and a landmark.

For airport runs book the day before. At this distance the pickup time is too important to settle at 4 AM.

Washington Township to New York City

There is no station in the township. A train into Manhattan means driving to Gladstone or Dover first. For a group or a late return, a direct car is from $165 one-way, tolls added at the end.

    Winter on the mountain

We dispatch at every hour, every day. Winter is when Washington Township tests a car service: Schooley’s Mountain road ices, farm lanes drift, and plough crews reach the back roads last.

If snow is forecast, tell us when you book and we will move the pickup earlier rather than eat into your airport time.

    Local fares around Washington Township

Short rides are quoted flat before you get in: into Chester, up Route 206 to Flanders and Budd Lake, over to Hackettstown, or down to Califon and Tewksbury.

Why book us instead of a rideshare app

Out here a rideshare may simply not come. Ours is assigned when you book, at a fixed fare, with a driver who knows Long Valley from Schooley’s Mountain and which Washington Township you mean.

    Farm weddings and groups

The township’s barns and farm venues host a lot of weddings. A Sprinter van takes up to twelve guests between ceremony, reception and hotel, so nobody drives the dark valley roads after a celebration.

Coming home to Long Valley from the airport

Book the trip home together with the trip out. The driver watches your flight and meets it whenever it arrives, at the fare fixed in advance — which matters when forty-odd miles of road still lie between the terminal and your door.

    Our Fleet Includes:

    • Luxury sedan — up to three passengers with luggage.
    • Executive SUV — up to six passengers, room for extra bags.
    • Sprinter van — up to twelve passengers for groups and events.
    • Wheelchair-accessible vehicle — available on request when you book.
