New Vernon is the village at the centre of Harding Township, one of the most rural corners of Morris County despite sitting just south of Morristown. The name is old — the area was already called New Vernon in the 1790s, when it was counted as part of Morristown — while the township around it is much younger.

Our base at 512 Logan Drive in Landing is about eighteen road miles to the north-west. In Harding we are mostly driving people who live well away from any station or bus route, and who would rather not face Newark’s long-term parking.

A township named after a President

Harding Township was formed on 1 September 1922 from part of Passaic Township — the municipality now called Long Hill — and was named after Warren G. Harding, who was President at the time. It takes in all of New Vernon and part of Green Village, both settlements that go back before the Revolution.

The practical result for a driver is a township without a town centre in the usual sense: a village crossroads, a scatter of lanes, estates and farms, and very few landmarks after dark. We ask for more detail at booking here than almost anywhere else.

Tunis-Ellicks House and the Tramp House

The Harding Township Historical Society was formed in 1977 to save the Tunis-Ellicks House, built around 1795, at 16 Village Road in New Vernon, and restore it to its early nineteenth-century appearance. When the Great Swamp refuge was created, the Society also rescued a Tramp House from about 1870 — a lock-up for drifters — and moved it onto the same property.

Village Road is also where most people ask us to meet them if their own drive is hard to find: a named, lit point in the village is a reliable pickup when a house number on a private lane is not.

Mount Kemble Avenue and Mount Kemble Lake

US 202, known here as Mount Kemble Avenue, runs up the western side of the township towards Morristown and is the road most of our Harding trips start or end on. Off it lies Mount Kemble Lake, a summer colony built in the 1920s that is now a private community with its own roads.

For a pickup inside a private community, tell us the gate or entrance and whether the driver needs to be expected at it. Five seconds at booking saves five minutes at the barrier.

The route we drive to Newark Airport

From New Vernon to EWR is roughly 22 miles. Depending on where in the township you are, we join I-287 south from Mount Kemble Avenue, or run east through Green Village to NJ-24, then on to the terminals.

    • Before 6:00 AM — about 35 minutes.
    • 7:00 to 9:30 AM — allow 55 minutes.
    • 4:00 to 7:00 PM — 55 to 60 minutes, with terminal traffic at the end.

Leave three hours before a domestic flight departing before 9 AM, and three and three-quarters for international.

Who rides with us in Harding

A quiet, spread-out township produces a particular kind of booking:

    • Airport travellers for whom a taxi is simpler than a week of parking.
    • Commuters dropped at Morristown or Convent Station.
    • Evening diners heading into Morristown or Bernardsville.
    • Guests at private parties and estates who should not be driving home.
    • Older residents for whom Morristown Medical Center is the nearest hospital.

Booking a taxi in New Vernon

Call (973) 306-7075 at any hour. Give us the road, the house number and a landmark or gate. Many Harding homes carry a Morristown mailing address; the fare does not change, but it helps to know.

For an airport run, book the day before so the driver can check the approach in daylight rather than at 4:30 AM.

New Vernon to New York City

There is no station in the township, so a train into Manhattan means a car to Morristown or Convent Station first. For two or more people, or a late return, a direct car is from $165 one-way with tolls added at the end.

    Dark lanes and deer

We dispatch around the clock, every day of the year. After dark Harding’s lanes are unlit and narrow, and deer are a constant presence — the reason our drivers take the township slowly and allow for it in the pickup time.

If a party runs late, call and the car waits. It is a better answer than a rideshare that cannot find the driveway.

    Local fares around Harding

Short trips are flat-priced before you get in: up Mount Kemble Avenue to Morristown, across to Chatham or Madison, south to Bernardsville, or over to Basking Ridge.

Why book us instead of a rideshare app

In a township this rural, the question is not the price but whether a car will come at all. Ours is assigned when you book, at a fixed fare, with a driver who knows that “Morristown 07960” can mean a lane in Harding.

    Private events, weddings and groups

A Sprinter van takes up to twelve — guests to and from a private party or estate wedding in one vehicle, with nobody driving home on dark roads. We work to the timings and arrive early.

Coming home to Harding from the airport

Book the return with the outbound trip. With the flight number we track the landing, so a delay keeps the car and the agreed fare.

    Our Fleet Includes:

    • Luxury sedan — up to three passengers with luggage.
    • Executive SUV — up to six passengers, room for extra bags.
    • Sprinter van — up to twelve passengers for groups and events.
    • Wheelchair-accessible vehicle — available on request when you book.
