Taxi Service in Stirling, NJ — Long Hill Township Cabs & Airport Rides, 24/7
Stirling is the best-known of the villages that make up Long Hill Township, in the far south of Morris County where the Passaic River forms the line with Somerset. The township around it is Gillette, Stirling, Millington, Meyersville and Homestead Park — five small places strung along a railway and a long ridge.
Our base at 512 Logan Drive in Landing is about twenty-four road miles to the north. Long Hill is one of the furthest corners of the county from us, and one of the closest to Newark — which is why most of what we do here is airport work.

The township that changed its name
Long Hill was incorporated as Passaic Township on 23 March 1866. For more than a century that name caused endless mix-ups with the city of Passaic, twenty-odd miles away, and in November 1992 residents voted to rename it after the ridge it sits beneath.
Old habits linger. Some older paperwork, and the occasional app, still use the old name or put a Long Hill address somewhere it is not. When you book, give us the village — Stirling, Gillette, Millington or Meyersville — as well as the street, and the question never arises.
Named for Lord Stirling
The land here was part of the Lord Stirling grant, which ran from Summit to Bernardsville between Morristown and Watchung. The village took the name around 1871, in honour of General William Alexander, the Revolutionary War officer who styled himself Lord Stirling, Earl of Stirling.
His name turns up all over this corner of New Jersey, which is useful to know when booking: Stirling the village is in Long Hill Township, Morris County; Lord Stirling Park is across the river in Somerset. Tell us which you mean.
Three stations on the Gladstone Branch
Few townships this size have three railway stations. Long Hill has Gillette, Stirling and Millington, all on NJ Transit’s Gladstone Branch, which opened westward from Summit in 1872. Trains run less often than on the main Morris & Essex lines, and outside the rush many journeys into New York involve a change at Summit.
That shapes our station work here. We drop commuters at whichever of the three suits their train, and we are often asked to collect people at Summit instead — when the last branch train has gone or the connection has been missed.
The route we drive to Newark Airport
From Stirling to EWR is about 22 miles. We head through Berkeley Heights to I-78 east, which runs straight to the airport — a different road from the NJ-24 route most of Morris County uses.
- Before 6:00 AM — about 30 to 35 minutes.
- 7:00 to 9:30 AM — I-78 east is heavy. Allow 55 minutes.
- 4:00 to 7:00 PM — 55 minutes, plus terminal traffic.
Leave three hours before a domestic flight departing before 9 AM, and three and three-quarters for international.
Who rides with us in Long Hill
A quiet residential township on a branch line gives a clear pattern:
- Airport travellers on a 22-mile run down I-78.
- Commuters at Gillette, Stirling or Millington — or stranded at Summit.
- Evening diners heading to Summit, Bernardsville or Basking Ridge.
- Families going to the Great Swamp or Lord Stirling Park.
- Older residents heading to Overlook in Summit or Morristown Medical Center.
Booking a taxi in Stirling
Call (973) 306-7075 at any hour. Give us the village and the street, and for a station pickup the station and the train.
Because we are based at the other end of the county, book airport runs the day before so the car is assigned and on its way in good time.
Stirling to New York City
With a change at Summit on many trips, the train into Manhattan is slower from here than from the main-line towns. For a group, a late show or a day with luggage, direct is from $165 one-way with tolls added at the end.
Early flights and missed connections
We dispatch twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The two calls we get most from Long Hill at odd hours are a pre-dawn Newark run and a late-evening rescue from Summit after the last branch train has left.
Both are easier booked ahead. If you know you may miss the connection, call us from the train and we will be at Summit when you arrive.
Local fares around Long Hill
Short trips are flat-priced before you get in: between the villages, to Summit or Berkeley Heights, across the river to Basking Ridge, or up to Chatham and Madison.
Why book us instead of a rideshare app
A fixed fare, set when you book. A car assigned ahead, which matters in a corner of the county where rideshare drivers are thin at 5 AM. And a driver who knows that Stirling, Lord Stirling Park and the old Passaic Township are three different things.
Groups, weddings and occasions
A Sprinter van takes up to twelve — a family to the airport in one vehicle, or guests between a ceremony and a reception. For weddings we work to the timings and arrive early.
Coming home to Long Hill from the airport
Reserve the ride back from Newark at the same time as the ride out. We follow the flight, so if it comes in early or two hours late the driver adjusts and the price stays where it was — and you are not queueing for a cab after a long flight with I-78 still ahead.
Our Fleet Includes:
- Luxury sedan — up to three passengers with luggage.
- Executive SUV — up to six passengers, room for extra bags.
- Sprinter van — up to twelve passengers for groups and events.
- Wheelchair-accessible vehicle — available on request when you book.
