Taxi Service in Butler, NJ — 24/7 Cabs from the Top of Morris County
Butler sits at the far northern tip of Morris County, pressed up against the Passaic County line with Bloomingdale and Riverdale on its doorstep and Kinnelon to the south. It is a borough rather than a township — small, dense, and built around one street. That geography matters more than it sounds: from Butler you are closer to Teterboro than most of the county, and further from Newark than people expect.
It is also a town that has not changed much. Butler was named in 1881 after Richard Butler, who had bought the local rubber works two years earlier, and a resident from a century ago would still recognise Main Street today. Our base is at 512 Logan Drive in Landing, about twenty-two miles south-west, and Butler is a run we make daily.
Butler taxi and car service fares
Quoted before you ride and held to. No surge multiplier, and the price does not change because it is raining or because it is five in the morning.

Tolls and tax are not included and are added at the end of the trip. Gratuity is at your discretion. We tell you the toll cost up front.
Butler is closer to Teterboro than you think
Most Morris County towns treat Newark as the default airport. From Butler it is worth checking the alternative first. Sitting at the northern edge of the county puts you unusually close to Teterboro, from $99 — the cheapest airport fare on our card from here — and well positioned for LaGuardia too.
Newark is still the busiest run we make from Butler at around 30 miles, but if you are flying private, being met from a private arrival, or choosing between LGA and EWR on price, the northern position genuinely changes the arithmetic. Ask when you book and we will tell you which is shorter for your actual destination.
The route we drive from Butler to Newark Airport
From Butler it is roughly 30 miles to EWR. We run Route 23 south to I-287, then south to NJ-24 east and down to the terminals. The Route 23 stretch is the part that decides your journey time.
- Before 6:00 AM — about 40 minutes.
- 7:00 to 9:30 AM — Route 23 south and then I-287 both load up. Budget 60 to 65 minutes.
- 4:00 to 7:00 PM — the same corridors plus terminal traffic. Budget 65 minutes.
For a flight before 9 AM, leave three and a quarter hours ahead for domestic and four for international.
Main Street, and why a borough is different to drive
Butler is about two square miles of borough, and Main Street carries most of it — the shops, the services, the Borough Museum at 221 Main Street. Everything sits close together, which is the charm of the place and also the reason parking is tight and turning is awkward.
Short local rides are quoted as a flat fare before you get in. Main Street to home, home to an appointment, across to Bloomingdale or Riverdale for something the borough does not have — none of these are long trips, and several of them exist purely because leaving a car somewhere on Main for two hours is not realistic.
The town that rubber built
Butler’s rubber industry began in 1869, when a New York dentist named Newbrough and Horace Day started the Day Rubber Company. Richard Butler bought the business in 1879, renamed it the Butler Hard Rubber Company, and grew it into the largest hard rubber factory in the world — bowling balls, pocket combs and a great deal else. It merged into the American Hard Rubber Company in 1898. The borough took Butler’s name in 1881, and the railway station built around the same time has served as the Borough Museum since roughly 1977.
The other half of the story is the Pequanoc Rubber Company on Main Street, destroyed by fire on 26 February 1957 — the largest industrial fire in the country that year. Locals still give directions by where these works stood, which is useful to a driver who knows the town and meaningless to one who does not.
Who rides with us in Butler
A small dense borough at the county edge produces a particular mix:
- Airport travellers weighing Newark against Teterboro and LaGuardia, which from this corner is a real choice rather than a formality.
- Households on Main Street and the streets off it, where parking is the constraint rather than distance.
- Cross-border trips into Bloomingdale, Riverdale, Pompton Lakes and Passaic County generally — Butler’s natural catchment ignores the county line.
- Older residents heading to appointments, including Chilton in Pompton Plains and Saint Clare’s in Dover.
- Evenings out locally or down toward Kinnelon and Riverdale, without leaving a car overnight.
Booking a taxi in Butler
Call (973) 306-7075 at any hour. For an airport run, tell us which airport you are actually flying from rather than assuming Newark — from Butler the answer is worth a minute’s conversation.
For a Main Street pickup, the house or shop number is enough. For anywhere up the hill streets, a cross street helps.
Butler to New York City
Direct by car is from $165 one-way with tolls added at the end. From the top of the county a car makes more sense than it does further south: you are already well north, the drive is straightforward, and for two or more people travelling together or coming home late it removes both the parking and the connection at the far end.
Early mornings, late nights and weekends
We dispatch twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. At the northern edge of the county, driver supply thins noticeably outside commuting hours — you are at the end of everyone else’s territory. A booked car is held for you rather than offered to whoever happens to be nearest, which at 4:30 AM in Butler may be nobody at all.
Late returns are the same problem in reverse, and the leg people most often forget to arrange when they book the outbound.
Crossing into Passaic County
Butler’s everyday life does not stop at the county line. Bloomingdale is a minute away, Riverdale and Pompton Lakes are barely further, and plenty of Butler residents work, shop and see doctors in Passaic County.
We price those trips from the same distance bands as anything else. Crossing from Morris into Passaic does not put you on a different rate card, and it does not mean a driver has to be found from somewhere new.
Why book us instead of a rideshare app
At the edge of the county the practical differences are sharper. The fare is fixed when you book, so an early airport run costs what you were quoted. The car is assigned in advance, so you are not watching an app search with bags by the door. And a driver who knows Butler knows which Main Street doorways you can actually stop outside at eight in the morning.
Group trips, weddings and occasions
A Sprinter van takes up to twelve, which on a borough street where parking is already the issue removes three cars rather than adding them. Family airport runs, weddings and evening events all work better booked as a single round trip.
For weddings we hold the timings rather than the mileage and arrive early rather than on time.
Coming back to Butler from the airport
Book the return with the outbound. Give us the flight number and we track it, so landing two hours late does not cost you the car or move the price. A thirty-mile run back to the top of the county at midnight is exactly the trip that app supply does not want, and exactly the one a pre-booking makes uneventful.
Our Fleet Includes:
- Luxury sedan — up to three passengers with luggage.
- Executive SUV — up to six passengers, room for extra bags.
- Sprinter van — up to twelve passengers for groups and events.
- Wheelchair-accessible vehicle — available on request when you book.
Around Butler
Kinnelon sits immediately south, Riverdale and Bloomingdale over the Passaic line, Pequannock and Pompton Plains to the east, Jefferson and Oak Ridge west. All of them are worked from the same base and priced from the same distance bands, county line or not.

Explore Our Frequently Asked Questions
The questions Butler callers actually ask.
How much is a taxi from Butler to Newark Airport?
From $109 one-way in a sedan, confirmed at booking. It is roughly 30 miles via Route 23 south, I-287 and NJ-24, about 40 minutes before 6 AM and 60 to 65 in the morning peak. An executive SUV adds $40 to $50. Tolls and tax are added at the end.
Is Teterboro cheaper than Newark from Butler?
Yes — Teterboro is from $99 against $109 for Newark, because Butler sits at the northern tip of Morris County and Teterboro is closer than it is from anywhere else we serve. If you are choosing between airports, tell us and we will give you the real comparison.
How early should I leave Butler for a morning flight at EWR?
Three and a quarter hours ahead for a domestic departure and four hours for international. The constraint is Route 23 south and then I-287 between 7:00 and 9:30 AM, not the airport itself.
Do you cross into Passaic County — Bloomingdale, Riverdale, Pompton Lakes?
Yes, routinely. Butler’s everyday catchment crosses the county line and we price those trips from the same distance bands as anything else. There is no surcharge for leaving Morris County.
Do you run in Butler twenty-four hours a day?
Yes, twenty-four hours, seven days a week, including holidays. At the northern edge of the county this matters more than it does elsewhere — outside commuting hours there are simply fewer cars around, so a pre-booked pickup is held rather than hunted for.
Can you do short local rides on Main Street?
Yes, and they are a steady part of our Butler work. The borough is compact and Main Street parking is tight, so a ride that covers half a mile is a perfectly normal booking. Short runs are quoted as a flat fare before you get in.
Can I book a return from the airport back to Butler?
Yes, and booking both legs together is worth it here. Give us the flight number and we track it, so a delayed landing does not lose you the car or change the price. Meet-and-greet inside the terminal is available at EWR.
How many passengers can you take from Butler?
A sedan takes up to three with luggage, an executive SUV up to six, and a Sprinter van up to twelve. On borough streets one van is considerably easier than three cars.
Do you take people to Chilton or Saint Clare's?
Yes — Chilton in Pompton Plains is a short run east and Saint Clare’s in Dover is south-west. We also operate a wheelchair-accessible vehicle; ask for it when you book and tell us which entrance you need.
How is this different from a rideshare app in Butler?
The fare is fixed when you book rather than calculated at pickup, the car is assigned in advance so nobody cancels on you at the top of the county at dawn, and the driver knows the borough’s streets. Being at the end of everyone else’s coverage area is exactly why that matters here.
