Taxi Service in Brookside, NJ — 24/7 Cabs for Mendham Township’s Mill Village

    Get a Quote

Brookside is the village in the eastern part of Mendham Township, between Mendham Borough to the west and Morris Township to the east. It was once called Waterville, and the name tells you what built it: the streams running down through the village, above all Stony Brook.

Our base at 512 Logan Drive in Landing is about thirteen road miles to the north. Brookside is a small place, and most of our work here is taking residents to the airports, to Morristown and to trains.

    Mills on Stony Brook

From the early 1700s until about 1900, water power made Brookside a busy industrial village. Its streams drove sawmills and grist mills, wagon shops, a glass factory and a string of cottage industries, and the channels that fed them can still be seen.

The largest surviving building is the Brookside Woolen Company mill, a two-storey masonry mill built in 1862 and enlarged in 1894, which drew its power from Stony Brook across the southern edge of the village.

    The Brookside Historic District

The village centre is protected as the Brookside Historic District, running along Tingley Road, East and West Main Streets, Cold Hill Road and Cherry Lane. It holds 114 contributing buildings and was placed on the State and National Registers in the mid-1990s.

For a driver, that means narrow, old roads, stone walls close to the tarmac and houses set right on the street. Give us the road and number, and we will take the village at the pace it needs.

The route we drive to Newark Airport

From Brookside to EWR is about 27 miles. We go east through Morris Township to I-287 south, then NJ-24 east to the terminals.

    • Before 6:00 AM — about 35 to 40 minutes.
    • 7:00 to 9:30 AM — an hour.
    • 4:00 to 7:00 PM — an hour or a little over.

Allow three and a quarter hours before a domestic flight departing before 9 AM, and four for international.

The community club and village life

The Community Club of Brookside grew out of the efforts of a local teacher, Fred Kiser, and friends including Benjamin Natkins, who persuaded their neighbours that the village needed a centre of its own — a sign of how close-knit the village has always been.

Evening events and parties bring guests who would rather not drive home on unlit roads. A car booked for the end of the evening takes care of that.
