Taxi Service in Towaco, NJ — 24/7 Cabs & Station Runs in the Foothills

Towaco is the northern village of Montville Township, with its own ZIP code and its own railway station. The name comes from Taiwaughaugh — land of the foothills — which is exactly what it is: the ground starts to climb here, and the roads follow the valleys rather than a grid.

The village grew up around transport and still runs on it. Our base at 512 Logan Drive in Landing is about twenty-one miles west, and most of what we do in Towaco is the station: a car out in the morning, a car back at night, and the airport runs the timetable cannot cover.

The station between Route 202 and Whitehall Road

Towaco station sits between US-202 and Whitehall Road on NJ Transit’s Montclair-Boonton Line. It is older than the name: it opened as Whitehall in 1870 on the Boonton Branch of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad, and only became Towaco in 1905. There are bike racks and lockers there today.

Station work is the core of our Towaco business. Tell dispatch the train rather than a clock time and the car is at the kerb when you come off the platform — which matters on a line where a small delay upstream moves everything by ten minutes.

    Canal, then railway

Before the trains there was the Morris Canal, the chain of locks and inclined planes that ran from Phillipsburg to Jersey City and carried the iron trade through this part of Morris County. It passed through Towaco, a small village formed around it, and then the railway arrived and did the same job faster. A Morris Canal marker still stands near the post office.

Two centuries later the pattern has not really changed here: Towaco is a place people travel out of and back into, and the last mile between the house and the transport is the part that still needs a car.

The route we drive to Newark Airport

From Towaco it is roughly 25 miles to EWR, usually Route 202 to I-287 south, then NJ-24 east down to the terminals.

    • Before 6:00 AM — about 35 minutes.
    • 7:00 to 9:30 AM — I-287 south is the constraint rather than the airport. Budget 55 minutes.
    • 4:00 to 7:00 PM — the same stretch plus terminal traffic. Budget 55 to 60 minutes.

Leave three hours ahead for a domestic flight before 9 AM and three and three-quarters for international.

Foothill roads and the open space

Towaco sits against a lot of protected open space, and the Waughaw Valley trails and parkland are part of what people like about living here. The same landscape makes the driving particular: lanes that wind, houses set back behind trees, and stretches with no street lighting at all.

For an early pickup, the house number and a landmark are worth more than a postcode. A driver who has been to your road before will be at the door; one who has not may be two hundred yards away with no way to tell.

Who rides with us in Towaco

A commuter village produces concentrated, repeatable work:

    • Rail commuters, out in the morning and back in the evening from the station.
    • Airport travellers at hours the line does not usefully cover.
    • Households short a car on roads where nothing is walkable.
    • Evenings out in Montville, Boonton or Lincoln Park without leaving a car overnight.
    • Older residents heading to Chilton in Pompton Plains or Saint Clare’s in Denville.

    Booking a taxi in Towaco

Call (973) 306-7075 at any hour. For the station, the train number or arrival time. For home, the house number and the nearest turning off Route 202 or Whitehall Road.

If you commute daily, ask about a standing booking rather than calling each morning — it costs the same as a one-off and the car is simply there.

    Towaco to New York City

The line through Towaco reaches Manhattan, but not directly — it means a change of train, which is fine on a commute and tiresome with luggage or late at night. Direct by car is from $165 one-way with tolls added at the end, and for two or more people it is usually the easier evening.

Early mornings, late nights and weekends

We dispatch twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The gap the timetable leaves is the one we fill: the 4:30 AM run for a 7 o’clock flight, the ride home when the last useful train has gone, and the weekend trips the line does not cover at all.

A booked car is held for you rather than offered to whichever driver happens to be nearest — which on these roads at that hour may well be nobody.

    Local fares around Towaco

Short runs are quoted flat before you get in. The station to home, Towaco to Montville or Pine Brook, across to Boonton, Lincoln Park or Lake Hiawatha — all priced as the local trips they are, and the same rate across Montville Township.

Why book us instead of a rideshare app

The fare is fixed when you book, so an early airport run costs what you were quoted. The car is assigned in advance, so you are not standing on an unlit lane at 4:30 AM refreshing an app. And a driver who knows Towaco knows the turnings off 202 that the GPS gets wrong.

    Groups, weddings and occasions

A Sprinter van takes up to twelve — a family airport run with all the luggage in one vehicle, or a group heading out for an evening. For weddings we work to the timings rather than the mileage and arrive early rather than on time.

Coming back to Towaco from the airport

Book the return with the outbound. Give us the flight number and we track it — land two hours late and the car is still there at the fare you agreed. Twenty-five miles back to a dark foothill road near midnight is not a trip to leave to chance.

    Our Fleet Includes:

    • Luxury sedan — up to three passengers with luggage.
    • Executive SUV — up to six passengers, room for extra bags.
    • Sprinter van — up to twelve passengers for groups and events.
    • Wheelchair-accessible vehicle — available on request when you book.
